On Sept 3, 2007, Forbes published an article on Mob behavior in India and quoted several known personalities explaining the mob behaviour. It could be depressing to read, yet here it is.
Kiran Bedi pointed to lack of trustworthiness of the police system and linked the corruption in police to poor economic conditions. Guha (journalist of India after Gandhi fame) ascribed it to ours being a populous democracy who like to vent anger through protests and intimidation via the mob mechanism. Lack of speedy (if at all) justice due to overcrowded courts and corrupt judiciary was given as another justification for the mob existence and behaviour.
